Ildiko Peter

Principal investigator/Full professor

Ildiko Peter received the M.S. degree in Bio-chemistry and has obtained her PhD degree in Material Science and Engineering from Università degli Studi di Torino and Politecnico di Torino, Italy, respectively. In the period 1999-2019 she has continuously been with the Department of Applied Science and Technology of the Politecnico di Torino.

At the start of the project she has been Associate Professor at the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology „George Emil Palade”, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. She has been appointed as Full Professor in September 2022.

In 2014 she has been granted by the Scientific Habilitation for Associate Professor in Material Science and Technology and Metallurgy, in Italy and in 2018 she has acquired the “Habilitation for Full Professor” in Romania in the field of Materials Engineering.

Ildiko Peter’s research activity is highly interdisciplinary involving different people, departments and research centers at local, national and international level. During her research I. Peter, with Chemistry background has the capacity to use this skill for the connection and for the development of functional materials in a Materials Science network approach.

Her main research interest is oriented to the development and characterization of different metallic alloys for automotive/aeronautical industries and biomedical applications, the development, optimization and characterization of thin and thick coatings on metallic substrates, the study of metal based alloy nanoparticles for oxygen reduction reaction, the development and characterization of metals containing humidity sensors for environmental monitoring, the synthesis and characterization of materials for advanced electromagnetic applications, development and characterization of piezo-electric ceramics.

She has 150+ publications on these topics and is co-inventor of 2 granted patents.

I. Peter has participated to many research projects founded by the Italian Ministry of Education and the National Research Council of Italy and actually, is a PI of a research project founded by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research (value: 245,675.83 Euro). I. Peter’s teaching activity is related to: materials science topics, advanced materials and metallic materials and characterization procedures, chemistry in strong correlation with the topic of the present research project. I. Peter gave more than 50 oral presentations at international scientific events and participated with guest lectures (plenary, keynote talks) at prestigious scientific events. Her H-index is 13 and her publications in the field of development and characterization of materials can be identified here:

In 2010 she has been a Visiting Researcher at Macquarie University, Sydney, NSW, Australia, Visiting Professor at the Universitatea Politecnica Timisoara, Romania (2015-2018) and from 2018, I. Peter is Member of the Doctoral School of the Universitatea Valahia Targiviste, Romania.

She is acting as reviewer for several Journals and since 2015 till now she serves as Associated Editor of the IEEE Access, a strongly interdisciplinary high-impact scientific journal.

She has been invited to serve as Research Grant Assessor for government funding calls in Romania and as International Expert in PhD thesis evaluation by Universities from Romania.

I. Peter is a Vice-President of the American Romanian Academy of Arts and Science, and member of Asociazione Italiana di Metallurgia and of Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per la Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali.

I. Peter has granted by the Romanian Executive Agency for Higher Education, research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI)- Experienced researcher from Diaspora-Mobility projects for experienced researchers from diaspora (2016, 2017, 2018).
